Passing Love: I will Wander, Looking for Beauty

Kyra rushes across Pittsburgh under the midday sun, carrying a USB drive to Gavin Haynes at a conference where she is refused entry. Helen Jacobs, his colleague, appears instead, making clear Kyra is not needed. When Gavin finally emerges, he takes the drive with a dismissive word and returns to his colleagues. Overhearing him call their upcoming marriage a project he must complete, Kyra realizes the wedding she has planned alone means nothing to him.

She tells him they need not marry, then blocks him. At home he dismisses her words, saying their families have settled everything, and tries to soothe her with a gentle promise that she is the only one he wants to marry. Kyra refuses him and sleeps in another room.

Next morning Gavin leaves early, leaving breakfast and a note in his beautiful handwriting. The gesture, once romantic, now makes her heart sink: she sees only superficial care.
