She Gave My Success to Another Man

For seven years, Richard has been the driving force behind his wife Charlotte's company, most recently closing a three-hundred-million-dollar M&A deal on three hours of sleep a night. Yet when the presentation arrives, Charlotte quietly reassigns the lead to Michael, a fresh graduate, telling the partner's representative that the young man created the proposal while Richard merely supervised. Her explanation to Richard is simple: Michael needs a high-profile start, and a race car will serve as compensation.

Richard says nothing, even forgiving Michael when Charlotte demands it, but he has already handed in his resignation and knows someone will take his place within three days. At the racetrack in the hills, he finds Charlotte in the passenger seat of a red Aston Martin, her hands guiding Michael's on the wheel, just as she once guided Richard. As memories of the crash she once pulled him from surface, he turns and walks away, while Michael's pained cry follows behind.
