Story

The story

Three years after her death by poisoning, Sophia Evans drags her family before the Court of the Afterlife, charging them with favoritism. If she wins, they face the Inferno of Eternal Torment while she ascends to Heaven; if she loses, she is cast into Hell. Her mother Linda, her sister Emily, and her father Robert beg her to abandon the trial, insisting they sacrificed everything for her.

Emily produces a black bottle of rat poison and accuses Sophia of killing them all. Sophia admits the poisoning but claims she only meant to kill Emily, and that the others drank by mistake. The court summons their memories, beginning with Sophia's advances toward her brother-in-law Daniel Carter and her demands for luxury as a girl.

As the crowd turns against her, Sophia remains certain the family owed her everything, while her father refuses to blame her. Both sides consent to the trial, and the first memory rises before the court.
