Story

The story

After her accidental death, Mia Harrison finds that only her husband, Arthur Sterling, can see her. At first he weeps with joy, believing their love has been granted a miracle, but the scandal of his seeming breakdown soon wears on him, and he begins to stay away.

Then he brings home Chloe Sinclair, a young woman who resembles the wife he lost. When Chloe falls ill with a strange disease, a spiritual master declares a malevolent spirit is to blame. Arthur turns his accusing gaze on Mia, and Chloe's wooden sword and talismans tear at her soul and drive her from the home they shared for seven years.

Powerless, unable to be heard by anyone but Arthur, and fading, Mia must endure the vicious wandering spirits outside while he blames her for a harm she never caused.

Opening excerpt

He wept tears of joy, saying that we could be together forever.

But later, he started coming home less and less.

Then, I saw the young woman following him—she looked exactly like I used to.

One day, that young woman suddenly fell ill with a strange, incurable disease.

A spiritual master claimed that a malevolent spirit was harming her.

And Arthur... turned his head and looked directly at me, while I floated there in absolute shock.
