Let Them Get Caught

On the eve of the college entrance exam, Queenie Shaw, the school belle, sends the whole class notes to smuggle into their stationery cases. Josephine has lived this day before: in her previous life she talked everyone out of cheating, only Queenie was caught, and the class stripped her, tied her up and threw her onto the highway, where a truck killed her and grief killed her parents. This time she leaves the group chat and keeps her head down.

Michael Slim, her childhood friend and the boy who once thanked her, corners her with a threat that reveals he remembers the past life too. He and Queenie talk the class back into cheating, promising fame and a bright future, and warn Josephine that no one will take her side. When Ms. Erin Lawson rushes in to warn that cheating will be checked and severely punished, Michael blames Josephine for snitching, and Queenie openly admits she proposed the scheme.
