Story

The story

Nora returns to her childhood home for Columbus Day weekend and finds it transformed into a boutique inn run by her sister Haley and brother-in-law Ryan. At the door, Ryan hands her a tablet and charges her for a room in the Victorian house she bought and renovated herself, while her mother urges her not to make things difficult for the family.

Nora pays for three nights without argument, then quietly texts her real estate agent to put the inn on the market. When Ryan demands payment for dinner and itemizes the hot water and linens, her parents side with Haley, who is pregnant and managing the property. They call Nora the older sister, the independent woman with a city salary, and tell her to stop making things ugly.

Nora remembers funding every repair and loss while her family promised the house would always be her home. Now she is a guest with a tab, and the family she shielded treats her as a wallet.
