Dead By Day Three

When his younger brother Zack catches a cold after a window is left open, Cody is blamed for it. Their mother drags him into an abandoned cellar behind the house, a freezing space far colder than the winter outside, and locks him there as punishment. She vows to starve him for three days, deaf to his pleas.

Zack's fever breaks by morning, and their mother takes him on a three-day trip to an amusement park to make it up to him. Cody's ghost follows them, watching the carousel lights and the ice cream Zack carelessly tosses aside, remembering how he was never allowed such treats. When Zack pretends to speak up for him on the way home, their mother's answer reveals how little she thinks of Cody.

In life, Cody had only obeyed Zack's demands, scalded his hand making the pasta Zack wanted, and taken the blame when Zack lied. Now the cellar has gone silent, and no one has thought to open it.
