Story

The story

Claire Lane has not come home for three days. When her landlady, Linda Walsh, blocks the doorway with a silver suitcase and demands that Nina sign Claire's move-out form, Nina hesitates. Then rows of red text appear before her eyes, warning her not to sign, not to touch the case, and that Claire never left at all.

Nina refuses, and Linda's manner turns cold, threatening to change the locks. Neighbour Mrs. Boyd sides with the landlady, and the residents' group chat fills with accusations against Nina. But Claire's belongings are still in the room, her phone is off, and the basement cameras failed three days ago.

As Nina calls Claire's mother and then the police, one question remains: what is Linda hiding in storage unit B13?

Opening excerpt

She said Claire had already moved out and told me to sign Claire's move-out confirmation for her.

Just as I picked up the pen, rows of red text suddenly appeared before my eyes, floating like real-time comments on a livestream.

[Don't sign! She never left!]

[That isn't Claire's suitcase. There's evidence inside.]

[The moment you sign, that paper will prove she left of her own free will.]

[When the police get to the basement storage room, she'll say the key was in your hands the whole time.]

The landlady pushed the pen into my hand.
