Death Note: Departing in Torture, Lost Forever

After being kidnapped, Lara calls her husband Kurt Mills for help, but her mother Anna tells him not to interfere and to let her learn a lesson. Once rescued, Lara returns home to find Kurt cutting a birthday cake while Anna sings to him. When they see her, their faces darken and Anna scolds her for making trouble. Lara calmly asks for a divorce and says she will leave with nothing, then struggles upstairs, her body failing her.

Kurt begs her to open the door, but Lara refuses, texting him that she no longer wants to waste time. She remembers how Kurt married her only because her father was his teacher, and how he banned her from his workplace after his junior schoolmate Saya Smith returned. A police officer, Rosie, had promised her everything would be fine, but Lara knows she is destroyed and may not live long.

Still, she is determined to divorce and move out, even if she must die outside the house. At daybreak, she gathers the documents and walks downstairs, but Kurt is not there.
