Story
The story
For seven years, Nora Vance has been married to Julian Vance, a wealthy man who has kept ninety-nine mistresses. On their wedding anniversary, after standing her up again, he sends her a draft divorce agreement. She replies only that she received it. A week later, Julian brings his young secretary, Chloe Bennett, home, and Chloe tearfully claims she sent the divorce papers from his phone as a joke. Julian comforts her, then tells Nora to apologize and stay obedient if she wants to keep her place as Mrs. Vance.
Nora no longer wants that place. She has already hired a divorce lawyer and booked a solo trip, needing only Julian's signature. Yet Julian insists he never intended to divorce her, calling her unreasonable for holding a grudge against a girl he calls young and naive.
What Julian does not know is that Nora received a diagnosis of stage-four stomach cancer last month. At thirty, she wants to be Nora again, not Mrs. Vance, and she is quietly preparing to walk away from the man who drained her youth.
