Story

The story

Scarlett has always been able to see the feed, a stream of watching voices that tells her she and her sister Nina are only stepping stones for Stella, the adopted daughter their parents cherish. For seven years their parents have called their cruelty tests meant to toughen the girls up, and Scarlett learned to endure them. Now Nina is dead, and their father has cut off Scarlett's allowance.

When Scarlett begs to borrow two thousand dollars to bury Nina, her father beats her with his belt and calls her a liar. Her mother wavers, but Stella arrives in couture and claims she saw the sisters buying fake medical records. Their parents believe Stella, not their own daughters.

Scarlett offers to sever herself from the family, yet her father turns even her sister's burial into one last test: pass it, and he will pay. Without Nina, she has no reason left to live.
