Story

The story

Elijah has employed Paul Miller as a part-time housekeeper for seven years, but a change in his work location means he must let Paul go. When Elijah prepares to move out of his old home, Paul makes an outrageous demand: a lifetime of care, or a monthly pension of ten thousand dollars, or the house itself. He threatens to humiliate Elijah in the group chat if refused.

Elijah stands his ground, yet Paul keeps returning. He buys two lobsters with Elijah's money and asks for four hundred dollars, but the payment record shows only eighty. He then eyes the seafood and liquor in the fridge, wanting them for his wife.

As Paul's greed grows bolder and his demands for retirement and property continue, Elijah's patience wears thin. He warns Paul not to come again, and the two clash over what an employer truly owes a helper.

Opening excerpt

Back then, Paul had agreed to do so immediately. But when I'm about to move out of my old home, he made an absurd request to me.

"I've spent so many years working for you to the bone. According to this industry's rules, you have to take care of me for the rest of my life. But if you refuse to do that, you can pay me a pension of ten thousand dollars every month."
