Story
The story
When Brendan brings his fiancée Kayla home, the Vaughn household bends over backwards to put her at ease. Kayla recoils from rare meat, clutches a crucifix, and asks whether they mean to bite her as she sleeps. To spare her nerves, the family locks away its synthetic plasma and goes vegan, swallowing every flinch in silence.
The night before the wedding, Kayla livestreams from the cellar, aiming her camera into the walk-in freezer and announcing she has found the bodies. The audience is unimpressed: vampires integrated decades ago, and synthetic blood sells cheaply on any corner. Selena Vaughn walks down the stairs and explains that the freezer merely feeds seventeen family members.
Then Kayla yanks open the bottom drawer and finds a dozen unlabeled pouches. Those belonged to Nana Helen, who rationed a specialized medical plasma near the end of her life. When the packets smash on the concrete, Brendan demands Selena apologize, and Kayla keeps filming.
