When Love Faces Adversity

William brings his new girlfriend, Harper Green, home to meet his father, Albert Davis, and his sister, Olivia. Harper is nothing like Emily Thompson, the woman William dated for seven years and abandoned after she nursed him through a long recovery from a car accident. Albert, uneasy about Harper's past, still welcomes her and offers her an expensive gift, while Olivia watches the awkward dinner in silence.

A week later, Olivia runs into Harper again in a bar with her friend Sophia Harris. Harper panics at the sight of Sophia and insists they have never met, then scolds Olivia for spending money. Sophia soon recalls where she has seen Harper before: a scandal from two years earlier, when Harper was involved with another woman's boyfriend.

Olivia begins to wonder whether William is simply another man Harper has chosen to pay her bills, even as Albert, changed by the loss of his wife, only wants his children to be happy.
