Woken up by a Heart Attack

Wesley suffers a heart attack, but his wife Amelia Price gives his private ICU room to her childhood friend Norman Wallace, whose old injury has flared up. Left on a cot in the cold hallway without even a curtain, Wesley listens as Amelia tells him to make do for one night. It is the same excuse he has heard for five years.

When his pre-surgery consultation is booked at the wrong hospital, when his bland meal is swapped for Norman's spicy wings, and when the support cushion he ordered becomes Norman's dog's bed, Amelia brushes it all off. Even the deposit he pays six months early and the reminders on her phone fail to keep her from checking him in wrong. Pale and in pain, Wesley pulls out his IV, throws away his bloodstained wedding ring, and tells her their marriage is over.

Amelia waves him off and goes to Norman. As his heart fails, nurses search for her signature, but she has taken Norman to the garden for air. Wesley lies alone, fighting for his life.
