Story

The story

Ava grew up beaten and starved in a foster home until the day her birth mother found her and carried her into the Sterling family, a world of villas, luxury cars and bodyguards. Recovering from a month in hospital, she returns to a house where her father runs a listed company, her mother keeps an art gallery, and a brother named Liam and a sister her own age are waiting.

But fifteen years of cruelty have taught Ava to expect nothing. She picks the smallest room she can find, hands over her allowance the moment Liam reaches for her, and braces for a slap when Chloe, the girl raised in her place, approaches in tears. Her mother promises to favour her, yet Chloe stays, and Ava cannot believe any of it is meant for her.

A family reaches out, and a girl who has only known blows must decide whether she dares to reach back.

Opening excerpt

The year my foster mother beat me half to death was the same year I found out I was the "real" daughter, switched at birth on purpose.

After a whirlwind transition back to the wealthy Sterling family, I instinctively chose the smallest, shabbiest room in the mansion.

My biological mom immediately stopped me. "Why are you going into the maid's quarters? Your room is upstairs."
