Sponsoring a Student, Getting a Mistress

Henry Gibbons is a man with a heart of gold, or so his wife believes. When he travels to the mountains to deliver supplies to Felicity Lambert, an impoverished student he sponsors, a blizzard traps him there. Yet a trending video shows Henry at a comic convention, kneeling to tie bells to a scantily-dressed young woman's ankles, while her post boasts of luxury goods, a pregnancy report, and a promise that once his wife dies, everything will be hers.

Scrolling through two years of donations from their shared account, his wife finds each one matched by Felicity's flaunted gifts: a nose job, Jimmy Choo heels, a sea-view room. A post from three years ago mocks the bald, old man she has trained, and the watch in the photo is the one his wife gave Henry for their twentieth anniversary.

When Henry returns home muddy and bearing a blessed bracelet, his wife asks where her mother's surgery funds went. He stammers, unable to meet her eyes.
