Story

The story

Quinn Waverly was born with a weak heart and survived only through a transplant at nineteen. Soon after, he met Vivian Cosby, and three years into their marriage he finds an undeleted note on her phone, dated the day they met: she had found him, and the heart was with him. A photo captioned Randall follows, along with her promise to show Randall the world through the heart beating in Quinn's chest.

Quinn learns that his donor was Randall Summers, who died in a car accident five years ago and had been engaged to a woman named Vivian Cosby. Every habit he once mistook for love now reads differently, and when Vivian brings home a young man named Wendell Burns who resembles Randall, Quinn must decide how to face a marriage built on another man's heart.

Opening excerpt

Three years after we got married, I found a note in her phone that was not deleted. The date was marked as the day we met.

The text simply read, [I found him. His name is Quinn Waverly. The heart is with him.]

When I looked through the notes further, I saw a man’s photo, captioned with a name. [Randall]

There was another line of text in her notes. It read, [Randall, through your heart in his chest, I will show you the world.]

I finally understood.
