Story
The story
After her sister Matilda Cooley ran her over with a car, Edna lost her baby and was left with a shattered leg. Her parents, Blanche and Rick Cooley, sent Matilda to prison, and her husband Sawyer Whitman swore he would never forgive the person who killed their child. For five years Edna believed them, dragging her broken leg through surgery and rehab alone while her family stayed away.
Then Matilda comes home, and Edna's mother begs her to attend a welcome-home dinner. Edna finally agrees to forgive her. But at the restaurant she sees the truth through the gap in the door: Sawyer holding a four-year-old boy named Noah Whitman, the child calling Matilda Mommy, her parents laughing beside them. Matilda was never in prison at all.
Edna does not go in. She asks her lawyer for divorce papers, buys a ticket for that same day, and prepares to leave the family that was never hers.
