Story

The story

Seraphina Sterling hid her identity and married Ethan Barlow, a poor fishmonger, because his mother Patricia swore that a man who treasures his wife is blessed by fortune. Ethan obeyed: he fetched fresh crabs at midnight and carried her up sixteen flights of stairs. His seafood chain soared, and everyone called her the luckiest woman alive.

Then a Manhattan heiress, Tiffany Vance, set her eyes on him. Ethan handed Seraphina a divorce agreement and fifty million dollars, saying he needed a wife who could stand beside him as an equal. Patricia swept her belongings into trash bags, and Tiffany offered another million to make her disappear from New York high society.

Seraphina signed calmly. Her real balance is over thirty billion dollars, and the premium supply chains Ethan depends on answer to her. She cuts off Barlow Seafood's supply and asks her assistant to find a handsome, sweet, very poor young man to spoil instead.

Opening excerpt

My husband, Ethan Barlow, treated her words like a holy commandment.

When I casually mentioned wanting seafood, he’d drive to the docks at midnight just to pick out the freshest crabs for me.

When I didn't feel like walking, he’d carry me on his back up sixteen flights of stairs.

Later, he started a gourmet seafood chain. Within a few years, his business skyrocketed.
