Story
The story
When her husband Jerry drowns at sea while saving his old flame Abby, his widow Maya is left with a fortune and a death certificate. She has him legally erased, cremates his paperwork in place of a body, and begins counting six companies, eight luxury cars, sixty-six commercial properties and eighty-eight residential units. Then the lawyer reveals that Jerry had already signed two properties over to Abby Chen, and Maya vows to take back every last asset.
Abby storms in to reclaim what she believes is hers, only to learn the truth when Jerry's own phone rings from Maya's handbag. Undeterred, she appears at his funeral with a boy named Leo, declaring him Jerry's son, flanked by Maya's estranged in-laws, who accuse Maya of murder.
As condolences pile up and old grudges resurface, Maya must decide how far she will go to protect her inheritance from a woman who claims a child, a past, and a share of everything.
Opening excerpt
My husband died at sea, saving his one true love.
By the time they notified me, the fish had already had their fill. The officer on the line asked if I still wanted them to search for the body.
I waved it off dismissively. No need to waste public resources.
With the official death certificate in hand, I had my husband, Jerry, legally erased from existence. Then I called his lawyer.
