When the Lovesick Fool Moved On

For over a decade, a young woman and her sister Jade fought over Preston, but Preston only ever loved Jade. She studied every art, earned an Oxford finance degree, built businesses and platforms, all for one glance from him. At twenty-five she comes home to find that her feelings have simply died. When Jade fakes a stumble and Preston catches her, the old script demands she scream and cry. Instead she calmly hands over her parents' gifts and walks away.

At a family gathering she expects a birthday, but finds Preston proposing to Jade. Her parents clap, and she learns Preston has just become Regional Director of Nexus Group, the company she and her classmate founded. Her partner meant it as a surprise, unaware she no longer cares. Cornering her in a stairwell, Preston warns her off and insults her. Later, his friends surround her with crude offers, and Preston sees it all, yet turns away with Jade.

Watching him, she finally understands how shallow and arrogant he is, and wonders why she ever fought her sister over him.
