Story

The story

Nora has loved Devin Cole, the region's most celebrated tactical shooter, since she was seventeen. She spent five years watching him from the crowd, then took an administrative job at his organization to get close. He was icy and dismissive, but she never left his side, and after a championship win he pulled her into a hallway and asked her to be his girlfriend. Their relationship stayed hidden from the public, known only to teammates and insiders.

When Devin lifts another trophy, his ex-girlfriend Lacey, a well-known caster newly back from overseas, posts a nostalgic letter online. Fans flood the comments begging the two to reunite, and Devin refuses to clarify that Nora is his actual girlfriend. He tells her he cannot be bothered to post and asks why she cares about internet gossip.

Then Lacey joins his record-breaking stream, playing badly, and Devin, notorious for his short fuse with teammates, speaks to her more gently than Nora has ever heard him. Watching from her desk, Nora feels the secrecy of their relationship cut deeper than ever.
