Story
The story
In the second year of the apocalypse, Elara travels with a small survivor team toward the Northern Base. She is one of the Normals, never having awakened an ability, while her boyfriend Liam and her older sister Rowan wield fire and ice. Once, Elara saved Liam from a dark alley and shared everything she had with him; now he and Rowan fight side by side, and the team treats Elara as a burden.
Liam no longer speaks to her, and Rowan's old hatred has never faded. Hank, the supply man, watches Elara with ill intent, and she hides a zombie crystal core in her pocket, knowing that for a Normal it could mean either awakening or a gruesome death. A month remains until the Northern Base, where she hopes to end things.
When Liam finally remembers the girl who once took him in, battered and broken, it may already be too late.
