Story

The story

After graduation, Valerie Albright falls for Ethan Thorne, only for him to announce her pregnancy to her father and vanish, revealing their romance was revenge. Her father dies, her mother loses her mind, and Valerie raises their son Leo alone, now kept by Marcus, a man in his forties who boasts of her to friends.

Ten years later, Marcus introduces her to his old friend Ethan Thorne and his fiancée Rachel. Seeing Ethan again, Valerie feels nothing but exhaustion, while Ethan mocks her for selling herself cheaply. She says nothing of the ruin he left behind, and Leo waits at home with a fruit knife.

What does Ethan truly want from her now?

Opening excerpt

It was like lightning striking kindling. I fell for him so hard it was almost a death wish.

And it was, in a way. It ended when he threw a positive pregnancy test in front of my father.

“Mr. Albright,” he’d said, his voice cold and steady, “your daughter is pregnant. The child is mine. And I’m leaving her.”
