Story

The story

On the day of her Mating Ceremony, Ember is shoved from the altar and watches her fated mate, Beta Seth, claim another she-wolf, Brielle, instead. He insists through the mind link that it is only to protect Brielle's unborn pup, but Ember sees them kiss and walks away from the pack. She bonds instead with Lucian, the most powerful Vampire Prince.

Three years later, Ember returns to her former pack lands as Lucian's blood-bonded mate to witness a truce between vampires and werewolves. Seth and his warriors mock her as a pathetic stray and a blood thrall, mistaking Lucian's moonstone pendant and shadow-spun silk ribbon for cheap trinkets. Seth offers her a storage room and chores in exchange for breaking her vampire bond.

They do not know who she truly is, or that Lucian feels it the moment anyone tears the pendant from her throat.

Opening excerpt

Moments before my Mating Ceremony, the guards shoved me from the altar.

I watched, paralyzed, as another she-wolf in a pristine white gown took my place. My mate, Beta Seth, didn't even flinch.

He took her hand—the hand of his childhood sweetheart, Brielle.

And in that silence, his voice echoed in my head through the mind link.

"Brielle is pregnant with a rogue's pup. She's mateless. I have to claim her, give her a home in the pack. It's to protect the child. I won't actually mark her. When this is all over, you'll still be my only one."
