Story

The story

Miranda has spent three years as the girlfriend of Hudson, Manhattan's golden boy, while his childhood friend Lexi builds a following on prank videos. At Miranda and Hudson's proposal party, Lexi grabs the microphone and announces she is pregnant, then laughs it off as a joke. Floating messages only Miranda can see warn her that this time it is real, and that Hudson slept with Lexi after a fight. Miranda answers with a pregnancy claim of her own, then takes it back.

When Lexi throws a wine bottle, Hudson shields Miranda and is struck in the head. At the precinct he drops the charges, and Miranda ends the relationship. A week later he corners her outside the hospital where she works, insisting Lexi is like a sister and that nothing happened. The messages contradict him, and Lexi's new video mocks the party.

Miranda sets him a bet: prove he would make Lexi pay if she hurt her, and the breakup is off. Then the messages warn her to run.

Opening excerpt

The first time, she deliberately flashed her bikini photos to him while I was sitting right there, secretly recording his reaction.

The second time, she let her towel slip in front of the camera during a FaceTime call to see how he'd react.

The third time, under the watchful eyes of everyone at a party, she suddenly grabbed him and kissed him on the mouth, laughing it off with a breezy explanation: "Don't be mad, Miranda! It's just a 'Kiss Your Best Friend' challenge for my channel!"

This time, it was at our proposal party.
