Our Daughter Died, My Husband Was Devastated

A serial killer is loose in the city, so Jane Morrison drives her daughter Nia Salome to and from school every day. When work overwhelms Robert, he offers to collect her himself. That day is the last time Jane sees her daughter alive. She learns he skipped the pickup to walk under the moonlight with his ex, Sienna Edith, who says she is afraid of the dark.

At the precinct, a rookie cop confirms the mutilated victim is Nia. Her unsent message asks why her father never came and mentions a birthday surprise. From the police car, Jane texts Robert that they are done and she wants a divorce.

In the hospital she coughs up blood and, cradling what remains of her daughter, runs into Robert fussing over a cut on Sienna's finger. He accuses Jane of stalking; Sienna insists nothing happened. Jane tells them trash finds trash and walks away.
