Be My Own Light

Two months pregnant, Scarlett refuses to give blood for Julian's childhood friend Anne because she is anemic, but Julian and his friends force her into the operating room anyway. After the transfusion, she drags herself to the gynecology department and has an abortion, then spends three days in the hospital alone while Julian stays at Anne's side.

Discharged and still weak, Scarlett finds Julian, Anne and his friends waiting. They crowd her out of the car, install Anne in her home, and treat her as a servant; Julian orders her to cook and make soup for Anne, then demands she apologize when the bowl shatters and scalds her calf. When Anne faints, Julian seizes the money saved for their baby to pay her hospital fees and shoves Scarlett onto the broken shards, leaving her bleeding.

Waking alone in a dark ward, Scarlett sees Sam's post of Anne resting on Julian's lap. The ache in her chest turns to numbness, and she opens her banking app to find the $14.000 she saved for herself is still there.
