Your Betrayal Broke Me, but My Healing Killed You

Josephine Sorensen has loved Jacob Gilmore, heir to a New York company, for ten years. Cold and distant, he avoided her until one reckless night left her pregnant; he married her, then stayed abroad for six years, keeping his distance from both her and their daughter, Jasmine.

When Jasmine falls gravely ill, Josephine calls Jacob again and again. He dismisses her pleas as an act, and when the phone is finally answered, it is Selena Jones, his childhood sweetheart. Jasmine dies in her mother's arms without seeing her father. Even the hospital's call cannot move Jacob, who mocks the news as a trick.

At the cemetery, Josephine finds the burial plot she prepared for her daughter seized by the Gilmores, with Selena and her daughter Sadie standing beside Jacob. Grief turns to resolve: she wants a divorce, and she will go home.
