Story

The story

Chloe accepts a proposal from Liam Carter, but when she unlocks his phone, she finds his answer to a question about first love: he only pursued her to stay close to her older sister, Mia, whom he still loves. Mia is her stepmother's daughter, a rival who once discarded Liam and now flaunts her divorce. Liam rushes to comfort Mia, ignores Chloe at the bridal boutique, and carries Mia away when she faints, leaving Chloe with a sprained ankle.

Chloe has her own secret: the top-voted answer under that same question was written by her, and Liam was never the man she believed him to be. At a cemetery she meets a couple whose son received a donor's corneas, and the boy's name is also Liam Carter.

She has found the wrong person all along, and the man who carries Ethan's eyes is not the Liam she has been dating.

Opening excerpt

In response to the question, "Just how powerful is the memory of a first love?", I saw my boyfriend's answer.

"Too powerful. That's why I proposed to her younger sister. I want to protect her under the guise of family."

I am that younger sister.

But I wasn't as devastated as you might think.

Because the top-voted answer under that same question... was written by me.

I have an unspeakable secret of my own.

The doorbell rang.

At the door stood my blackout-drunk boyfriend—and fiancé.

He proposed to me last week, and I said yes.

Right now, his eyes were bloodshot, and he reeked of alcohol.
