Story

The story

Sandra is a researcher at a secret national institute, and the radioactive material she was transporting has vanished from her home. The only other person with a key is Lorraine Larsen, a live streamer who is entangled with Sandra's longtime boyfriend, Neil Jackson. When Sandra reports the theft, Lorraine denies everything, and Neil refuses to speak for her.

The stolen substance is pure Iridium-192, lethal to anyone who handles it carelessly. Yet the corridor surveillance shows only Sandra coming and going, and Neil points at her as the thief. As the sole suspect, she faces prison while the two of them celebrate. Only Peter Sutton, who brings detection equipment from the institute, stands at her side.

Before her phone is taken, Sandra begins to write her own account of the betrayal, determined to answer them in full.

Opening excerpt

I find the thief, but Lorraine Larsen refuses to own up to her crimes. Even my longtime boyfriend refuses to act as a witness for me. All he wants to do is send me to jail.

It's too bad they don't know I'm a researcher at the nation's secret research center. They also have no idea that they've stolen highly radioactive materials—they can easily be killed by those.
