My Husband Took My Heart to Save His First Love. At Their Engagement Party, He Cried Over My Photo.

After her death, a woman watches her husband, Steven Anderson, perform her autopsy himself. He removes her still-beating heart and orders it prepared for Sophia Reed, his childhood sweetheart, who has congenital heart disease and is waiting in surgery. The baby she was carrying is taken and cremated without a word. Only then does she understand she was a vessel for a heart meant for another woman.

As a ghost, she follows the life she once begged for: a three-year marriage built on a transaction, a first child lost after a fall, and a second pregnancy she fought to keep. Steven removes his wedding ring within an hour of her death and rushes to save Sophia. Yet on the day of their engagement, he hides in a dressing room, weeping over her photo.

Her closest friend, Lila Harper, confronts Steven, demanding to know what he did to Ginger and where the baby has gone.
