I Won’t Stay in a Home for Three

After seven years apart, Sera quits her job and returns to the apartment she once shared with Johnny, only to find her best friend Gigi living there in his shirt. Johnny tells her Gigi has taken the master bedroom and assigns Sera the guest room, while his silent thoughts beg her to make a scene and prove she still cares.

Sera has heard Johnny's inner voice since the day he let her leave for a regional posting, saying he loved her and asking her to wait. Yet the years brought late replies, missed weekends and Gigi's constant presence, until Sera stopped reacting. When Gigi says the door code was changed to her birthday, Sera sets down her keys and walks away.

Outside, she learns the shipping crates holding seven years of her life have been thrown out, her keepsakes ruined in the rain. As Johnny shields Gigi with an umbrella, his thoughts betray a doubt he never voices aloud.
