Story

The story

The summer she turns eighteen, Emma gives her virginity to Mason, the boy she has loved for six years, believing their night together has finally become something real. The next day she overhears him telling his friends he only used her to practice his technique before pursuing the Homecoming Queen, Mia. His careless words shatter her, and without a word she changes her college commitment from an Ivy League school in New York to a university in California, far from him.

That night her best friend Lily video-calls from a party, showing Mason and Mia kissing in a VIP booth. Emma decides to leave her old life behind, but she must keep her plan secret and face the boy who still believes she belongs to him.

Ten years as his shadow end in a single afternoon, and Emma must now learn who she is without Mason.

The summer we turned eighteen, Mason took my virginity.

I pushed through the discomfort, secretly beaming all night, thinking my agonizing six-year crush had finally blossomed into true love.

That is, until the next day, when I overheard his friends teasing him.

"Not bad, man. The school's sweetheart let you score your first time."

I felt a bit embarrassed and was about to slip away quietly. Then I heard Mason’s careless, indifferent reply.

"I want to ask the Homecoming Queen out, but I was worried she'd think I was too inexperienced."

"I just used Emma to practice my technique."
