Her Light and My Darkness

After a car crash leaves Yocelyn Carden in a coma, her husband Samuel Floyd keeps her alive with tubes for two years. She believes he cannot bear to lose her — until his former love Amelia Brown returns, blind, and Samuel signs the consent form to take Yocelyn's corneas for her. Yocelyn's mother begs him to stop, but he brushes her aside and tells Amelia the eyes have been prepared for her for two years.

Yocelyn dies after the surgery, her body rejecting it. When her mother calls Samuel, he snaps that it was a minor operation and hangs up, then blocks her number. Only when the doctors come out with condolences does her mother's scream echo through the hall.

Freed from the hospital room that held her soul, Yocelyn follows her grieving mother — who has aged overnight, her hair turned silver — and watches her run into Amelia on the street. Amelia, dressed in finery, denies knowing her and shoves her away, then stomps on Yocelyn's death certificate.
