Story

The story

Lyra Hale takes her parents-in-law, Edmund and Macy Hale, to dinner at Mooncrest Pavilion, once her own family's restaurant. When Macy packs up the leftover bouillabaisse for her son Orion, Vera Rhodes, his female assistant, slaps the bag from her hands and mocks the couple as poor hillbillies. Staff force the three to the ground; Edmund, whose legs are weak, is injured, and Vera's insults leave him critically ill.

At the hospital, Lyra calls Orion to sign the surgery consent form. He refuses, accusing her of scheming for his money, while Vera murmurs beside him. Lyra cannot wake the sedated Macy to prove the truth, and the call ends with the sounds of the two kissing.

With Edmund in the emergency room and Macy collapsed, Lyra is left alone to face a husband who will not come.
