Story

The story

Leon Booth has quietly become an outsider in his own home. His wife Danielle Russell, his parents, and his cousin Vincent Tanner share a family group chat that excludes him, and when Vincent moves in after his parents' death, Leon is relegated to a cot on the balcony while the others enjoy warm rooms and family dinners. Every sacrifice he makes is met with blame, and every complaint earns him the label of being petty.

When Leon finally sees the truth, he stops trying to win back their affection. He calls his friend Nathan Morris and accepts a place on a distant project, planning to leave the next morning. But as he packs, his family returns and confronts him, and Danielle's reaction to his departure leaves him injured and alone on the floor.

With nothing left to hold him back, Leon must decide whether to keep fighting for a family that has already cast him out, or walk away for good.

My wife, Danielle Russell, has forgotten to log her WhatsApp account out of my computer after using it.

When I'm about to help her log out, I notice a notification from a group chat popping up on the screen.

"We're hosting a family dinner tonight to celebrate Vince's promotion."

Out of curiosity, I click on the group chat.

There are only four members there—my dad, my mom, Danielle, and my cousin, Vincent Tanner.

Danielle texts back, "Are we the only ones attending? What about Leon?"
