Story

The story

At his engagement party, Luke is handed a document by Oliver Gibson, his fiancée Shannon Hoffman's sworn brother, who demands he sign a surrogacy contract or give up the marriage. Shannon shrugs it off as a childhood joke and tells Luke to sign it and humor him. Luke tears the contract apart, and when Shannon still takes Oliver's side, he orders Oliver out of the hall.

For five years Luke has backed down while Oliver sabotaged his work, spilled coffee on his laptop, and even tampered with his brakes, leaving Luke hospitalized with a fractured leg. Each time, Shannon begged him to forgive Oliver and let it go.

Now, as Oliver slaps himself bloody to win her sympathy, Luke finally sees the answer he was looking for.

Opening excerpt

Luke's POV

My fiancée's so-called sworn brother, Oliver Gibson, pulled out a document at the engagement party.

"Luke," Oliver said, sliding it across the table to me. "Shannon promised me years ago. She said she'd give me a child."

He tapped the paper like it was a done deal and continued, "Sign the contract. Or else, forget about marrying her."

I didn't touch it.
