Story
The story
Pulled from the fighting pits of Keelhaul Bay, a woman is mistaken for Seraphina by Silas Blackwood, who carries her off to his gilded estate. She knows his tenderness is a lie: in her last life, when Seraphina's death certificate arrived, his devotion turned to torment, and she died on a surgeon's blade. Now she has woken back at the beginning, beaten and broken, with Silas already certain she is the woman he lost.
She claws at her own face, shows him scars that were never Seraphina's, and denies the name again and again, but Martha soothes her with talk of amnesia and Silas only answers with gentler care. His roses, his warm meals, his patience all feel like bars closing in, and she knows the truth of Seraphina's fate will reach him eventually.
When she flees toward the hidden wood, a tiger finds her first, and Silas takes the bite meant for her, asking how she knew the path. Trapped, she chooses to play the part he wants, silent and obedient, a beautiful doll that has lost its soul.
