Story

The story

At twenty-six, Samantha is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Her husband Ethan and their three-year-old son Tommy only scold her for forgetting to collect the boy from kindergarten, comparing her unfavourably with Rachel, Ethan's first love, who has just returned from abroad.

Rachel is Samantha's half-sister, once the beautiful girl their father celebrated while Samantha sat in mended clothes. Now she works beside Ethan as his executive assistant, and he shoves Samantha aside to carry the injured Rachel away. On Samantha's birthday, her husband and son celebrate with Rachel, and Samantha, unable to remember the way home, boards a bus toward the only address left in her mind.

When a voice she barely knows calls to ask whether she has finished her drama, Samantha frowns and asks who it is.

Opening excerpt

I had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease when I forgot to pick up my son from kindergarten again.

When Tommy got home, he angrily threw his backpack at me:

"What's wrong with you?! You're nowhere near as good as Aunt Rachel!"

Ethan also looked at me with disdain: "Are you becoming senile? Go wash my underwear!"

As days went by, my memory got worse and worse.

On my birthday, my husband and son were celebrating with his first love.
