Story

The story

When her five-year-old daughter Cindy accidentally scratches the face of her husband's mistress Yvonne, Amelia's husband Jack has the child's fingers cut off as punishment. Cindy flees home bleeding, only to be assaulted by an intruder, and Amelia's desperate calls to Jack are answered by Yvonne, who mocks her as a nuisance. Jack, a top lawyer, refuses to listen, insisting nothing matters more than Yvonne's face.

Cindy's organs are removed by the intruder, and she dies still clutching the birthday watch she had saved a year to buy for her father. Jack defends the criminal who attacked her, letting him walk free, and only learns of her death at his birthday celebration, where he spirals into rage and denial.

Now, holding her daughter's urn, Amelia vows to make those who hurt Cindy pay, even as Jack and Yvonne stand beside the man who killed her.

Opening excerpt

My daughter accidentally scratched my husband's young mistress's face with her nails. For that, my husband had her fingers chopped off.

Covered in blood, she came home seeking help, only to be assaulted by an intruder.

I called my husband, crying, but his mistress's sweet voice answered the phone.

"Stop using these lowly tricks to get Jack's attention. All you're doing is making him sick!"

I begged my husband to take my call, but all I got in return was a barrage of insults.
