Story

The story

Mia has spent two years with Leo, a boyfriend of few words whose silences and unreturned messages are explained away by a chorus of comments only she can see. They insist he loves her quietly, that his distance is devotion, and she has always let them speak for him.

Then she watches Leo drape his jacket over his childhood friend Stella and hears him say his girlfriend will not mind. When Mia finally tells him that seeing him beside Stella makes her miserable, he offers only silence, and the comments rush in with excuses she can no longer believe.

After a night of waiting, a photo places Leo with Stella, and a cheating accusation drags Mia before the dean, where Leo sits beside her accuser. This time she stops listening to the comments and bets on herself.

A familiar stream of comments scrolled past the edge of my vision:

[Chill, guys, Leo’s just helping her adjust the volume. He’s not even listening!]

[That’s his childhood friend, Stella. They grew up together. He can’t just embarrass her!]
