Every Boyfriend I Bring Home Dies

Deborah Henson has had four boyfriends, and every one of them has died in her home after eating her mother's handmade dumplings. The city's special task force has investigated each death, and the city's most renowned forensic team has examined the bodies, yet no cause of death can be found. The dumplings themselves are tested every time and always prove perfectly normal, leaving Deborah and her mother as the prime suspects in the eyes of their neighbors.

Two years pass before Deborah dares to date again. When her new boyfriend, Richard Finch, pushes for marriage and insists on meeting her mother, she finally brings him home. Following family tradition, her mother makes dumplings. Minutes after they eat, Richard is found stiff and cold on the couch. Chief Finch and his team return to the same apartment for the fourth time, and a young investigator named Justin Dickerson fixes Deborah with a cold stare, demanding she come clean about why her mother insists on making dumplings every single time.

Deborah has no answer. She ate the dumplings too, and she is still alive.
