Taking My Hope Away

A wife is forced by her husband, Arthur Rothe, to donate her remaining kidney to his true love, Shawna Green, who is dying of uremia. She tries to tell him she has kidney failure and will die if she donates, but he accuses her of jealous games and has her taken to the hospital. She dies on the operating table while Shawna's surgery succeeds.

Left with overwhelming resentment, she lingers as a soul beside Arthur and watches him hold Shawna, grateful only that Shawna survived. He never once thinks of her, even as a nurse remarks that the patient in the next theater died alone and no family came for her body.

Only Ian White, her adoptive brother, rushes to the hospital, takes her body away, and tells Arthur she was his wife. Arthur, who once sued her and called her disgusting, is left facing a loss he never saw coming.
