Story
The story
On the eve of her wedding, Skylar learns that her fiancé Jax has amnesia — he remembers everyone but her. Determined to help him recover, she finally obtains a memory-restoring drug and hurries to his room, only to overhear him laughing with friends about the amnesia being a fake, a pause button on their seven-year relationship so he can enjoy one last month of freedom before returning to her.
Numb, Skylar walks home through the rain, the pills washing away in the downpour as memories of their years together resurface. She resolves to cancel the wedding, changes her name to one no one knows, and books a flight to Melbourne, clearing every trace of Jax from her life.
When Jax appears with another woman, his careless slip reveals the truth, and Skylar walks away without a backward glance.
Opening excerpt
The night before my wedding, my fiancé, Jax, suddenly claimed he had amnesia. He remembered everyone but me.
That day, I finally got my hands on a drug that could restore memories, and I eagerly rushed to find him.
My hand was just touching the doorknob when I heard familiar voices spilling out from inside the room.
"Jax, how did you even come up with this fake amnesia stunt? It's so messed up, it's brilliant! Skylar will never see it coming!
