Story

The story

On the eve of Ethan's wedding to Aria, her childhood sweetheart Caleb Chrest returns, broken by an accident into the mind of a ten-year-old. Aria postpones the ceremony, strips the ballroom bare and moves Caleb into their home, where he smashes the wedding portrait, tears down the crimson banners and attacks Ethan with porcelain shards. She tends only Caleb's wounds.

Aria insists she owes Caleb a debt and that he will live with them from now on. When Ethan refuses, she promises a license in a few days and a proper ceremony once Caleb stabilizes. His father, who long ago hand-picked another fiancée, calls in cold fury.

Then Ethan finds his wedding tuxedo gone, worn by Caleb and ruined with paint. His late mother had designed that suit for him.

Caleb Chrest, the golden boy who once had the world at his feet, had been reduced to a simpleton by a tragic accident. Now, he wouldn't let anyone near him except Aria.

After all, eight years ago, they had destroyed each other, a spectacular implosion that ended with Caleb fleeing the country and Aria’s entire family in the hospital. Since she’d been with me, I was her entire world. Our friends always teased her about it, calling her famously devoted now that her long-time crush—me—had finally become her fiancé.
