Story

The story

Rose Sterling was born a human lie detector; no lie can escape her. Raised in an orphanage, she exposed its director for embezzling donation money, and he was jailed. Years later her biological parents bring her home to the Sterling family, where the fake heiress Chloe greets her with tears that Rose instantly reads as false. Her parents scold her for being harsh, insisting Chloe is a good daughter they raised.

Rose keeps dismantling the household's lies. She finds a hidden listening device and pinhole camera in her room and forces the butler, Mr. Davies, out. Her fiancé by birth arrangement, Damon Thorne, declares his love, but Rose hears only falsehood and splashes tea in his face. She plants cameras in Chloe's room and learns that Damon and Chloe are lovers plotting to seize the Sterling fortune.

At a lavish charity gala, Rose turns her gift on a hypocritical businessman, Mr. Henderson. Playing mind games with a lie detector, she intends to play along until the very end.

Opening excerpt

I was born a human lie detector. No lie could get past me.

When I was eight, the director of the orphanage gave us a tearful speech from the stage.

"Funds are tight! From now on, we can only afford meat once every three months."

I pointed a finger straight at him. “Bullshit. You bought your girlfriend a brand-new Lexus last week with the donation money. You think we're stupid?"

The director was soon jailed for embezzlement.

Years later, my biological parents took me home.
