When Unspoken Love Becomes Evidence of Betrayal

Seven months pregnant, Julian watches her husband Smith grow close to a woman he calls Ms. Clement, a coffee-shop owner he met through his office. They share an easy, unspoken understanding, and every day he buys two bouquets of roses—one for Julian, one for Clement. Nothing is ever openly improper, yet Clement texts him a question he never answers: if he had met her first, would he have married her? After that, Smith smokes on the balcony all night.

When Smith claims a business trip to the next city, Julian says nothing and lets him go, though she knows where he is going and whom he will see. She has slipped her smartwatch into his laptop bag; its location places him on the twelfth floor of a hotel for hours. At dawn she arrives with her marriage certificate and ID, and the front desk gives her the room number.

The door opens. Clement's arms are wrapped around Smith's waist, and her words trail off as he pushes her away. Julian slaps her, and Smith begs Julian to come home, while Clement insists nothing dirty has happened between them.
