Story

The story

Haley has waited five years for her mating ceremony with Alpha Randolph, the man she loves. Yet on the drive to the MoonShadow pack, a drunken call from Leslie changes everything. Randolph turns the car around, choosing Leslie over the ceremony, and orders Haley out into the dark forest alone, telling her to walk the rest of the way.

Stranded on a deserted road, Haley is hunted by a rogue wolf. She reaches out through the mind link, begging Randolph to save her, but he never answers. Alone and bleeding, she dies in the forest.

As a spirit, Haley drifts to Leslie's house and finds Randolph cradling Leslie by the fire, tender in a way he never was with her. He tells Leslie their mating ceremony can wait, and that Haley will simply have to deal with it. Watching them, Haley understands she never truly held his heart, and Leslie has won.

Opening excerpt

Haley's POV

Tonight would be my mating ceremony – I was finally going to be with the man I love, my mate – Alpha Randolph.

I gazed out the car window, watching the dark silhouettes of the towering Frostwind mountains pass by. I imagined the mating ceremony happily, hopefully, it’ll mark the end of our five years of off-and-on relationship.
